F.a.q.
What
kind of relationship is there between Witchcraft and the Old
Religion?
The
term Witchcraft is the “vulgar” or popular appellation in use to define our
religion for many centuries.
We
decided to take distance from this name because we are tired
to be continuously misunderstood and to be discriminated
against by a misinformed society where this word causes fear
and sinister rapprochements.
If
you consult any dictionary you can understand this, mine says:
"Practice or operation of magic often connected with a
commerce with the spirits of the evil or a mysterious and
sinister ritual".
Often
the term Witchcraft is understood or used as a synonymous of
magic and this causes more confusion among the people who wish
to practice the Old Religion and among those who turn to us
because they want to practice the Magic influenced by what
they saw on the television.
We
don't want anything to do with these "little witches"
and "little magicians" and we underline this.
What
kind of relationship is there between Wicca and the Old
Religion?
From
us there is of course a great respect and solidarity, since we
are part of the same great family.
We
are Italians, so, we feel connected with the traditions of the
origin in our country and of the Mediterranean area, rather
than the traditions of the Anglo-Saxon area.
What
kind of relationship is there between Paganism and the Old
Religion?
When
the Christianity began to be the official religion of the
Roman Empire, the term Pagan started to be use to define all
that was unfaithful and the non-Christians.
A
simple and efficient way to alienate all other religious
identities.
Historically
and culturally it is incorrect, in my opinion, to consider the
term pagan exclusive as synonymous of polytheist.
We
respect the right that everybody has to use the word Pagan or
neo-pagan to define themselves. Nevertheless we refuse and do
not accept the use of this term to define ourselves because it
doesn't represent our point of view.
What
kind of relationship is there between devil and the Old
Religion?
Simple:
There isn’t
any kind of relationship.
The
devil always been the best pretext to discredit and destruct
those one who think in different way.
The
devil is not part of our culture, we don't believe in the
devil's existence and honestly we feel tired to be always
connected with this idea that historically and culturally
doesn't belong to us.
But
so, why the "Divine couple" is often represented by
Diana and Lucifer in the Old Religion?
Because
in the Old Religion's culture, which has its origins in the
pre-Hebraic, Lucifer represents one of the various aspects
through we identify the Male Great Principle, just like Diana
often represents the Female Great Principle.
Lucifer
is an absolutely positive Divinity, associated to the Sun who
keeps and dispenses the Light of the Knowledge.
Nothing
in common with the myth of the rebel angel or with the devil.
Are
you a religious sect?
Absolutely
not.
It's
sadly known that the majority of people has the bad habit to
think that numerically small religious groups are sects and
potentially dangerous for the society and for the single
characters who are part of it.
This
is because the majority of people probably think that you can
only call it a religion if there are millions of followers who
belong to it.
We
prefer quality to quantity...
Are
you saying you don't do proselytism?
Exact.
Are
you a secret society?
Absolutely
not.
Majority
of us are very discreet persons.
When
society shows more good will towards us, we will probably end
this essential discretion requirement. I think that many of us
will be happy to express themselves freely. Me first!!
Which
is the relationship between the Old Religion and the other
religions?
To
not share with others' ideas doesn't mean to be against
others' ideas.
The
Old Religion teaches us to respect other people’s beliefs and tell us to use of the dialogue as an
instrument to get over any misunderstanding and, in this way,
we could live together in peace and harmony with other people
who think differently from us.
We
don't want to convince or discredit anyone, we only want to be
respected and let in peace to live and express in freedom what
we believe.
